It sounds like a problem with the sender's SMTP server not being able to handle a message where only some of the recipients exist.

Have the original sender do a test where they email a real gmail account, and a completely made up one. Does the same thing happen?

I'll give it a shot.

If they're running an Exchange Server, they should see if there are any patches or updates they can install.

Sounds like a good idea.

Found the smtp sender info: Microsoft SMTPSVC(6.0.3790.1830)

Does anyone have access to a Microsoft SMTPSVC(6.0.3790.1830) server?

We'd like to test the idea that Tom had about sending emails to gmail
but we don't have one of those Microsoft boxes.

If anyone has one and would like to help run a test, please email
me off list so we can run a few tests.
