MeddelandeI'm a southpaw once in a while. I cast left-handed when obstructions
prohibit a righthand backcast. But I can also cast right-handed over my left
shoulder, but too many casts wear out my lower back, so I'll swap to the left
hand.

Drift-fishing is another time. The guides love it when I swap hands to keep
the back-cast away from their heads. With the wind here, a low side-cast is
preferrable, and that puts the guide right in the way of the cast.

-Sorry I did not change the original Subject Line on my last reply to
this message. Removed all the stuff that did not pertain to casting.

No switching for me either. I find I have more control using my
dominant hand.

Both of my children are left handed but my ex-wife and myself
are right handed . I use my dominant right hand to hold the rod and to cast and
my left for the reel. No change of hands.
I think this goes back to the the spinning reels of the
1950's when it was difficult to get right hand wind.
