I grew up with 10 foot long bamboo poles with very fine tips..about the same in size as the ones on my 5 wt fly rod. There was a line, tied to the very tip and half hitched down about a foot for strength, that we cast out, and often didn't use a bobber as then the worm (Yikes..we were bait fishers) would quickly sink to the bottom. Then we'd slowly slide the line in toward shore. Sounds like the same technique would work with the tenkara rods. My friend, Eddie Robinson, of the fly shop by the same name, says he uses his regular fly rod just like this all the time in our rivers with good results and, of course, using a fly. Joyce
