. But in no way should we teach our youth (& future leaders) that fishing is just about getting one's dinner. that is an ancient, worn out & overly abused belief that has no place in today's world......My $0.02.
Dean, that advice is worth a whole lot more than $0.02! The dinner table mentality fosters the idea of measuring the success or failure of a fishing outing by how many are on the stringer or in the cooler, and this is absolute lunacy, pure and simple! SELECTIVE MANAGEMENT is the key to the future so that there will be places to go enjoy nature with your family, and appreciate what's there. But if having fish there to catch is to be part of that experience, they won't be there if everybody that goes out there to enjoy it, takes a stringer load of them home! I enjoy fresh fish just as much as anybody, but the South Platte upstream from Deckers, or Hot Creek in CA, are just two examples of places not to get it!
