A short length of a broken rod tip makes a great tool for tying nail knots. Make a loop in the line and wrap one end of this around both ends and the rod section. Put the end that was used to wrap through the rod tip (inside the wraps). Tighten the knot a bit and remove the rod section. Tighten the knot.
