No one has ventured an answer to my query yet.

I'm going to toss poppers in the shallow, rolling surf down in Baja for rooster fish.  They may run 2 lbs or a hundred pounds, or anything in between.  What weight rod would you fish if you had an 8wt, 12 wt, or 14wt to choose from?

What you say is true Dean. I don't use the four weight in the surf. In the
harbor from a small drifting boat and these are snapper I am talking about
are not tailor blues. These are 6-10 inches max.

   JJ,

thats an exception I can understand, but over here on the West Coast where we have Surf that will jack you up soo damn quick, it's STUPID to use such lite, out of it's arena Gear. We used to use 6wt.s in Kings Harbour for the Bonito...lotsa fun for sure, but since the protection statis afforded Seals, You would be insane to try a 6wt. in the Harbour...you'd lose everything to the Seals.. All I'm saying is if you are starting out in Saltwater Flyfishing...use a 7wt. & up for starters... then, as you develop your Saltwater skills, you can wisely choose if you'd like to go lighter...
