Bill, I'll tell you one of my favorite spots but you have to keep it a secret *g*. The crooked river in central Oregon has always produced well for me even in hot weather. This late in the summer it may be slow during the day but pick up in the evening. Last year I fished it in August and fish were few and far between during the day, but once the shadows started to hit the water it was a blast (about 20 fish an evening). Fish range in size from 8 to 14" on average with some up to 18", even the 12inchers are a good fight and give you your money worth. Now all that said you might want to watch what the fires are doing ( we're on fire down here, 9 last I counted). Camp grounds are primative but to my knowledge there is no camping other then the campgrounds, but during the week it's not unusual to have the campground to yourself.
