Hook sellers probably won't appreciate this message. The higher grade hooks (Tiemco, Dai Riki, etc.) are great, but I can never bring myself to buy a 25 pack when I can get a 100 pack of Mustad classic fly hooks for about 50% more money. For those with the same disability, I put together this "scale" of Mustad hook styles and sizes. It is applicable for trout flies, and stays with Viking bends (round, forged) and the cheaper styles. Wet flies and nymphs can be made on dry fly hooks, so I like to stay with dry fly styles to minimize inventory.
