I have a large stock of Mustads that are at least 20 years old. Their QC must have been better then, as I rarely find flawed hooks in these old boxes. But I do find quite a few flawed hooks in the newer purchases, and it's not limited to Mustad. Most of the defects are in the run-of-the-mill size 12-18 wire and forged hooks, but rarely do I find defects in the specialty lines of any of the hook manufacturers.
I don't have a favorite hook maker, though. I'll tie with whatever is the appropriate hook design for what I'm tying at the moment. I get so many hook samples and handouts at the shows, it is impossible to keep track of what mfg. hook went on what fly. Yeah, sloppy, I know. What the heck. Very good article, Dean.
