I never had a problem with the old Mustads. I have picked up a couple of thousand off of Ebay. Cardboard boxes, hooks wrapped in paper. The ones that I have used so far no problems. I still remember the days of 50 or 75 cents for a box of a 100. I even have some old Herter's hooks from my first fly tying kit.
