Since we're talking about wonderful experiences with customer service I thought that I would tell of my recent incredible service experience.
I had recently decided to make a foray into high-end hackle...no more playing with 2nd rate chicken feathers gleaned from the dumpster of the local KFC for me....(although if you take the feathers on the same day that they clean the grease-trap you won't have to add any floatant to the finished fly!!!) So - I dug deep in my pocket and ponied up the big bucks for a Whiting 100 pack. Grizzly...size 12 (I tie mostly 14's-18's...figured that I could just buy one size hackle and clip it to whatever size fly I am tying at the moment). Anyhoo....started tyin' away. My little-sausage fingers are flying and I'm makin' a mess o' bugs. I get to the end of the pack of hackle and decide to go back and count the number of flies that I had tied. With all of the corporate scandles erupting lately I have learned not to trust ANYONE...and I have no problem being the watch-dog for John Q. Public (or Jane Q, as the case may be....) Well...to continue a long story....I counted and RE-counted and...guess what...? I only had 97 flies! Out of a Whiting 100!!! "Something smells rotten in Delta," thinks I as I dials up Tom on the phone.... To my surprise....after profuse apologies from Mr. Dr. Whiting....Lady Customer Service raises her lovely gaze towards the West Coast and I am assured that all will be well come the following day. Lo and behold! Sitting on my doorstep when I return from work today was a package from Captain Mr. Dr. Tom Whiting...for me...for my troubles...my very own Whiting Replacement Chicken! Cree, in fact! So...cudos to the Consumer-Happiness Bureau at Whiting Farms! I will SURELY be buying more Whiting 100's once I use up this chicken! The only problem now is that I have to buy some feed for it....and it won't quit running around the apartment...can't quite pluck any feathers for my tying....and I really want to tie some dry flies and shouldn't I have been sent a ROOSTER for cryin' out loud???? Where is that number again.....??? Chris
