Very well said...   I should've read my posts before posting my response.  Thank you.  I see it all too often here in Rhode Island. I see it more in the saltwater where they don't have to pay for a fishing liscense. I have been very blessed in life.  I'm by no means rich but am thankful everyday for what I have.   I have a few single mothers for friends that really struggle from day to day.  I applaud their strength.  WIC isn't always enough.  One of them has to refuse any raises she is offered because that will take away her eligibility for assistance with healthcare.  In Rhode Island healthcare is astronomical.  My husband and I choke when we get the bills.  Her husband died and she has two kids.  She could use that raise!  If she knew how to hunt and fish for food would she?  Maybe....    It would certainly help make ends meet.

Gary.....I have bite my tongue many of times on this list regarding issues that I should reply to.  Not in this case.  I live in the South.  Many people still hunt and fish here for food.   I personally practice catch and release by choice and because I have the means to pay for fish if I wish to eat one.  I support ones right to take game or fish(legally and within limits)if they intend to feed their family with it.   Certain harvesting must be done in most game species to keep a healthy balance, especially with the reduction of natural preditors.  I do not kill for sport, if I take an animal it's for the table.  I also realize that the meat in supermarkets and resturants came from an animal and didn't magically apear wrapped in plastic.
It's great that our society can provide for the less needy but that shouldn't discourage one for try to provide for their own.
"Give a man a fish....you feed him for a day.  Teach him to fish....you feed him for a lifetime."
Not trying to insult....but that is my 2 cents worth.
