If the bobbin holder is properly aligned it may be the case that you do not need a half hitch prior to moving the bobbin to the bobbin holder. I tie on a Nor-Vise system and the only time I need to use a half hitch prior to moving the bobbin to the thread post (same as a bobbin holder) is when I tie on hooks with a return loop-eye.
The other thing I will suggest is that if you are going to tie and really utilize the rotary function of the vise (and are moving from the bobbin holder to the hook frequently) buy a Norlander Automatic Bobbin. The bobbin has a mechanism whereby it automatically spools thread back onto the spool when you return from the bobbin holder back to the hook. With a standard bobbin this has to be done manually, which is not a big deal if you don't mind the hassle. The automatic bobbin takes a little getting used-to but, in my opinion, is worth the investment if you tie in a rotary fashion for a mojority of the time. For more info...www.nor-vise.com.
