I look for red cedar that has a knot or a burl. It also makes beautiful reel seats. The knots polish up to a real high gloss.
If you do make it here for the Sowbug, I have some I can spare. Osage orange is another good wood to use for reel seats.
As long as we are talking Sowbug, all the VFB members that are coming, please contact me OFF LIST, OFF LIST, OFF LIST.

I love Cocobola, but have not much contact with the others you mentioned.
I will go to my exotic wood distributor and look for them.
Thanks for the info.

Keith: I just made a ring box for my wife for Christmas. I used
African Paduka. Used black velvet with a gold strand in it and
lined the bottom with black felt. I didn't use a finish but used
stain controller to seal it. Sure came out nice. I even have an
old Acme wood lathe that I got from my in laws when my father in
law passed away. Alan Di Somma Phoenix,AZ. ----- Original
