Henk, one more thing. I see nothing wrong at all with the FFF charging a $50 fee to anyone (tyers)wanting to sell things. I can't pay it, because it'd be a loosing proposition....so i don't. But they have to find ways to make money.......any way they can. I don't look at them as a promoter in the sense of making money for their own pockets. They are a conservation organization, and therefore are at the mercey of public support. That's why i'm a life member of both the FFF and TU. That and the free rods of course, LOL. And hey, them rod companies need people like me to use as tax deductions.......lol. I give away countless flies every year. It's fun, and isn't ever gonna put a dent in my grocery money. LOL, mark.........i hope and pray........

Oops. Sorry guys. Thank you for catching that Tony.
I know many of you won't touch this one.... But what are your feelings
about the politics and such that go on in some of these groups. It seems
To me that it can really spoil the fun. Most tiers don't try to make a
living from their tying. Someone once told me when money enters the
picture it takes out all the fun. I've experienced some of this first hand
And at times have questioned what my goals will be with this. I still have
a very hard time charging people for flies or lessons. So I will never make
a living at this. I like to give and share and of course swap!!
What are your thoughts and experiences. Not that I'm a negative thinker but
don't try to coat this with all the warm and fuzzies because I'm really
interested in how you react to it and how you've gotten beyond the politics.

I don't tie for money, I don't sell flies, I don't ask money for demos, other than expenses, if relevant/appropriate. I DO sell the tools I make, for a nominal fee... Except at the FFF conclave that is, as the FFF in their unlimited wisdom this year instated a rule that for tiers to sell anything, they should register with the organization, and pay a USD 50 fee to do so. I would probably not have sold enough tools to recoup that 'investment' (said that I sold them for a nominal fee only) so I ended up just giving some away...
