I've been tossing around the same question. I've been looking at the strap vests and think that's the way I'll go this year. The one chest pack I did try I didn't care for too much, I felt it blocked my view when looking down, but that could just be the gut :- ). Cabela's carries a few different strap vests in a variety of prices. Check them out at www.cabela's.com

I'm on the lookout for a new fishing vest, but has been looking at some of the small chestpacks aswell and was wondering what you all are using.
What do you guys and girls thing is good/bad about the vest and the chestpack.
I just saw a brand called William Josef, witch is new here in Denmark, does any of you know it ??
Is it worth the money ??

Have never used a chest pack, and never will unless i can't handle my vest
anymore. I keep my vest weighing about 30 lbs. for support, and balance in
the water. There's a much more eloquent explanation for this in Lee Wulff's
somewhat autobiographical video called, I Was Born To Fish. Check it out.
You can order it from the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum, at
845-439-4810. All my reasons for going the way i go, can be explained
therein. You can also get another reasoning from Rene Harrop by way of his
video (one of a set of three) by ordering them from him at his fly shop,
Trout Hunter in Island Park, Idaho. I first came to the conclusion that
they were both right when i decided to stay with the vest program after
realizing that i hardly ever used half the stuff in my vest, lol. But that's
definately no reason to go to a chest pack. My vest is an Orvis shorty (like
to wade deep sometimes) with the serious Yolk Collar and the adjustable
suspenders inside. mark.....p.s never go fishing without a wading
staff.........
