Chuck I'm pretty sure you already know to wrap the herl around your thread and then wrap the "rope" created by the herl and the thread for your thorax right?

That was my plan anyway. I think i may even lead the "hard as nails" off the thread body as i think some of it is "wicking" up into the herl from the backside of the fly as well..It has that hard bead head.
