What I'm gonna do is do just what you say, then take my bodkin a pick at the herl just a bit to see if it is tied down pretty good. if it is, I'll leave off the glue on these particular fly cause I wanted the herl to be soft and pliable on these. That was my plan anyway. I think i may even lead the "hard as nails" off the thread body as i think some of it is "wicking" up into the herl from the backside of the fly as well..It has that hard bead head.
