Earlier this year Apple did something to either ipod firmware, itunes or quicktime that means some methods for endocing video to ipod dont seem to load onto the ipod anymore.
I never had time to work out exactly what theyd changed, I assumed its either a bug or a deliberate attempt to make people who encode ipod stuff using quicktime, use the ipod export option and thus increase the number of m4v files that exist in the world, serving apples agenda. This is annoying not least because there is nothing to say that Apple wont do something similar again in future. Funnily enough this issue, whatever caused it, doesnt seem to have stopped video encoded using other methods (such as isquint) working on the ipod. I dunno, maybe it was a bug. Still at least there is ipod conversion built into itunes now, so whilst far less than ideal, if any videos do stop working at least viewers can convert them more easily (& faster) now. If you are still up for talking about this subject, I would like to know more about the export settings you were using that dont work anymore. It would be good to know exactly what causes the problem.
