To all who are using LC in some way, is it your catalogers who are assigning call numbers or are you using copy records that already have them?

They claim they could catalog more quickly if they began using some other PN number, then organizing them by director or by title. Is this true? I am not a cataloger. Obviously. Do other academic libraries use LOC to catalog their DVDs? If so, do you use PN 1995.9, or something else?
