Hello All,
Other than the ALA **Games and Gaming Member Interest Group listserv,
does anyone know of any listserv resources on the matter of games in
academic library collections?
We started purchasing games in support of coursework several years ago
on a few different consoles (PS2, PS3, and XBox), but things are really
picking up steam this semester -- I've received more requests in the
last two weeks than I have in the last two years. Some of the issues
starting to crop up are a bit thorny, so I'm hoping there's a
Videolib-esque resource out there where I can learn more about others'
approaches to the same.
Right now I'm running into a request that we 'acquire' downloadable
content (e.g. not available in hard copy format) on our on-site
consoles. Not even sure if there would be licensing prohibitions re:
downloading games from, say, the PlayStation store for student use.
Just diving in and thought I'd see if anyone has any resources to
recommend on this kind of topic.
Much appreciated,
--

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control,
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication
between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.
