Hi Nick, I imagine the "OSM NoName" layer you refer is the layer proposed in the main page of OpenStreetMap. Without coding anything, one thing you can do is to read the source code of this page in order to extract the URL schema for "OSM NoName" tiles. Then with this information, we will be able to add this layer to Viking.
As I plan to release a new version of viking sooner (2 weeks), perhaps can you wait for this release.
