I use mc (midnight commander) to organize my files.
I have a simple rule to open gpx files with an osm map layer:
regex/\.(gpx|GPX)
Open=viking ~/.osm.vik %f

Yes, I also would love to see that!
Right click on a location in the map an "open location with ..." would be a
great help !
