Code samples are not in the language that Viking is written in.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
This definitely means Viking's 'Route Finder' tool is broken.
I highly recommend you use an OSM Route planning service directly that offers
the generation of GPX files.
Such as:

or (UK only)
http://www.cyclestreets.net/
