echo matchlist('yes no', '\%#=1\%u0020')
echo matchlist('yes no', '\%#=2\%u0020')
However, this does work:
echo matchlist('yes no', '\%#=0\%u0020')
It falls back to the old engine automatically.
So, what is the problem?

characters. I can fix that.
