I just have a couple of comments to add:

1. I too would love to see the wiki moved to an ad-free,
well-maintained, up-to-date server. I too agree this isn't going to
happen, at least not in the short term. The only person who to me seems
like a candidate with the stickability and passion to oversee such a
thing would be John. And, to be honest, to future-proof it in such a way
that if whoever maintains it loses interest/leaves/dies/becomes
uncontactable, you really need to have a few people with full admin
access to all passwords, etc. so it doesn't become lost to the
community. Too often single admins take on tasks on behalf of a
community and then disappear, leaving the community in the lurch with no
or sub-par access to their own data.

2. I think our focus should be on 'anonymous users.' It is the thousands
of Vim users who are *not* on the mailing list who just Google for help
or browse the Wiki that should be the target audience, not the mailing
list regulars who already know a lot of the stuff on the Wiki anyway.
Creating an account at Wikia, installing browser extensions, proxies,
etc. are not really good workarounds for these people, and IMHO, it is
if and when ads make the Wiki unbearable for *them* that we should
consider moving it elsewhere, or asking Wikia to consider at least
lessening the ads on the Vim wiki, which surely must be a pretty
high-traffic wiki.

Ben.
