Well, as has been said, using "Reply" (in one of its variants) when the
intention is to start a new question on an unrelated subject, is the bad
practice that this thread is discussing. It makes the mailers believe
that you're actually "replying" to the previous mail, i.e., pursuing the
conversation on the same subject, or maybe on a closely related one.
If you want to start a new question, you should "Write New Mail". If
you're nervous about spelling the to-address the right way, there are
several remedies:
- copy the right address to your address book, not by hand-typing it,
but by copy-paste via the clipboard. Then you can fetch that address
back from your address book whenever you want to start a new thread to
the list. Or maybe even type a few letters in the "To" field, and your
mailer (if it's as clever as mine) will autocomplete the rest, maybe
with a rolldown selection.
- if the discussion group's title is a mailto link, just click it and
it'll start a new thread
- on the Google Groups page for each Vim group, there is a button near
top right, "+ new post". Click that to start a new thread by webmail.
Best regards,
Tony.
