Actually, I got bored and installed WFW 3.11 on an older PC I had lying around, and it works remarkably well. Calmira gives it some of the functionality that's nice like a better desktop metaphor and a taskbar.
As much maligned as it is, I'd say WFW 3.11 was probably the pinaccle of Windows development, and it went downhill from there.
