Erm, the customer could be right, wrong or painted purple and standing 
on the moon with a glass of Port for all I care (at least, while I'm 
not at work anyway). The fact is if they are being a pain in the ass 
you don't want to deal with them. If they are nice and helpful you 
treat them much better. Awkward people still get the service but just 
don't get as much of the smile factor.

Taking it from the customer side, another thing you have to understand 
is that the retail sector is short of skilled staff. You take the 
example when I got that PRAM battery from Maplin. I walked in and got a 
young member of staff. He was *totally* clueless. If I had given him 
the shop part number then he would have been fine , but in the event he 
had absolutely *no* idea what I wanted. Now when I showed it to the 
manager he knew straight away, but not everyone is that experienced or 
that bright.
