I bought the Crescendo upgrades for a 6100 and 7100 and wasn't overly
impressed, I think the bottleneck was the slow bus. Honestly over the
years I can't say I've really been impressed by most of the CPU upgrades
out there with perhaps the exception of the Newer upgrades for the 604
PowerTower Pro clones.

I think there are some pretty decent deals to be had in the used market
though. I finally picked up a B&W G3 450 for a nice price, and upgraded my
PV 1400 finally to a Lombard the other day.
