Kumhos are good. We use them on Austin Healeys, too :-) Too bad manufacturers don't supply VW bug owners. There are a lot of them and only about 10,000 Austin Healey owners. We are all getting squeezed. But Kumhos work well.

The closest thing available in a modern-era tire is a 165/80-15, which is only slightly smaller in diameter and a whole lot easier to find. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compare1.jsp?width=165%2F&ratio=80&diameter=15&startIndex=0&search=true&pagelen=20&pagenum=1&pagemark=1&RunFlat=All&x=106&y=13 http://www.bizrate.com/automotivetires/oid392380264.html A 195/65-15 is about the same diameter, but doesn't fit comfortably on a 4 or 4½" stock VW rim - IMO it should only be used on a rim at least 5½" wide. If you have a 4-lug Bug, 5½" rims aren't too hard to come by (they were used on many special-edition cars in the early `70s) but if you need the 5x205 bolt pattern you'll have to resort to aftermarket rims (early Porsche 5½" rims being too rare and dear). --- Nicholas Stokes <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I've spent the last couple of days on a unsuccessful > hunt for 165R15 > VW-sized tires in my local area. > > It seems that 165/15 tires are obsolete from the > major manufacturer's > point of view and I cannot find anyone in the > Tidewater area of > Virginia that can get them for me.
