I have a question on this same line of thought....

I have a '59 beetle, and I'd like to make it stop a little better. Are disc
brakes my only option, or can I switch to a later year 5 lug drum? Are the
brake pads and width of the drum "fatter" with more stopping power on the later
years?

I put a rather angry 1915 in the car earlier in the spring. It has a lot more
oomph than the old 36hp engine that was in there. Trying to slow the car down
from 80+ is a rather hair-raising experience. The brakes fade rather
quickly.....

I have a 2" narrowed CB puma beam, and CB dropped spindles if that makes any
difference at all. I don't know what the differences are between the early
drums and the later drums.
