Many years ago I had a 66 Ghia with 200+ hp turbocharged Corvair-to slow it 
down I installed disc brakes on the front and huge TypeIII drums in the 
rear. That car stopped on a dime! Since approx 80% of the braking is done 
with the fronts, I would think you atleast need to consider front disc 
brakes.
