If I'm not mistaken, all Bugs 1968 - on had provision for idiot lights for the Auto Stick Shift - don't know if there was actually a different speedo - just different idiot lights installed. In my stick-shift cars, the light for the "ATF" indicator is covered with black sealing putty.
