With my daughter off to grad school, I now have some time with her '74 Standard Bug to repaint and reseal. Part of this time will be to rebuild or replace which is to my knowledge the original 1600 DP which still runs quite well but burns oil and has an unknown number of miles.
My question is about having this original case line-bored and the pistons/jugs replaced and heads rebuilt or buying a long block with a new case. With the limited number of mile that will probably be put on this car after the refurbishment, I'm thinking a rebuild may be the wisest choice. If I decide to rebuild, does anyone know a reputable place in the VA, MD, NC area of the country? Recommend a place for a long block?
