When Clyde Berg left Gene Berg to open his own business Jeff did Heads For Gene Berg Enterprises. Good recommendation in my book. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Dan Moy Sent: Sunday, August 30, 2009 5:20 PM To: Air-Cooled Volkswagen Discussion List Subject: Re: [vintagvw] To Rebuild or Not Nick, Before you rip apart the engine you might want to do a few diagnostics, oil pressure, compression. Sounds like the rings are worn though. I think the general opinion regarding align-bore is that it is not worth it because no one does it correctly on a type 1 case. If you have low oil pressure and you can source a new case that is the way I would go. If the pistons and cylinders are original you might want to have the cylinders honed and install new rings. For heads there are a few good places that restore them to better then new condition. A.J. Sims (lowbudget), or Len Hoffman (HAM).
