Thanks for your input chuck,
      We did take great care while rebuilding the engine a few years ago to 
align the dizzy drive gear properly. I trust its in its right place.
           My problem really lies independent of the engine, rather any engine.
      If I believe the picture in the Bentley, it means *all* the dizzies I 
have in my stash are defected in the sense that the hole for the dizzy dog pin 
in the shaft is drilled 90 degrees off by VW. How can that be possible???
     In other words, the picture I mention does not hold true for the dizzies I 
have.....
Thoughts please????
