Jim Andersen was and is a great guy. Think I have several of those input
shafts and a couple of cams myself. Bill May sent me a care package once with
both a tap and a thread in style fuel fitting for stock carb included(among
other things- think an accelerator pedal rebuild kit??). Never met anyone else
that has never laid eyes on me, yet cared enough to send me something to keep
my car from catching fire. Amazing the cameraderie and help we all got here
over the years. For me/involvement on this forum, I just am not working as
actively on a project as I should be.

I really like NQs advice on keeping things in life in the correct perspective.
Funny thing was I wanted to ask about the young lady from Australia and did not
know how to go about it. Congrats NQ and may the two of you have many happy
years ahead. Sorry but my kinowledge of fuel injection rests in the MK2 CIS-E
era...

Jim Anderson aka Zundfolge was a pretty cool fella. He sent me a VW care

package one time and I still have bits and pieces of little wiring

connectors meticulously labeled in my stash of parts. I have a toolbox

drawer filled with input shafts from IRS transmissions to use as clutch

alignment tools and the cam in my bus was a good used one...also from Jim.

Does anyone have his email address? I'd like to email him. It's because of

Jim that Rob Laffoon of Omaha, NE got his green single cab pickup and Rob

has won awards and taken dozens of trips around the country in that bus.

Even Johnny Lightning made a copy of it right down to the Buskatier

Kokopelli logo.

I'm really wanting to do some fuel injection stuff. I've collected the

parts to do a 2L T4 setup and I've just had it with the carburetor crap. I

really want and need to learn fuel injection for the air-cooleds. I talked

with Jeff Laudin at the Wabaunsie State Park campout (in Iowa) last Saturday

and he's running a GMC Sonoma FI setup on his T4 2L. I guess it works

really well. I'm personally torn on which method to use for cooling. I

love DTM stuff but really want the thermostat flaps. The Joe Cali method

leaves the #3 cylinder running a bit warmer than I'd like but at least you

get to have a thermostat...such a crucial part to have for proper warm ups

and just ignored by most. Argh!

Anyway Dave, got any pix for us of the 68 turbo?

Thanks for the kind words on missing me all these years now. I just got

married 3 weeks ago and went on honeymoon throughout Colorado. I married an

Australian girl who loves VWs and me even more. A lot has changed but we

still love the VWs.

I've been driving Li'l Red everyday now. I put an SVDA distributor on him

and upgraded to disc brakes with the super stopper shoes in the rear. All

this courtesy of John Connolly at www.aircooled.net.

A final note...my grandpa who was so instrumental in helping me with the

mechanicals all these years finally passed away a year ago January with

stage 4 cancer. I still wear the bib overalls in his honor and the torch

has been passed on to me now. With his passing, I've lost a tremendous

resource but I'll just plod along and do what I can until I see him again.

Nice to see the list is still going and hopefully, with my second wind and

new lease on life, I can make posts once again and help get things fired up.

One thing I've learned...do NOT make VWs the focal point of your life. Make

it an integral part of your life and use it to enhance what you have but put

the priority on your loved ones and the VWs will just mesh in. I've been

through a mental hell over the past 9 years getting things straightened out

in my life and I feel better now than I have in many, many years. I've

missed the list and although I can't post like I once did, I will try to

make posts as I can. I hope you all enjoy what little I'm able to post from

time to time.
