That's one of my gripes about the 34 pict 3 is that pot metal arm yields to the hardness of the spring and eats through it. I'd be tempted to try to file a groove or carefully drill another hole or something. It'd be one of those little oddball parts someone could produce that would slip over the arm with a hole drilled in the precise location and give you a new place to hook the spring to.
