Volks,
As the temperature dropped, there arose a loud singing or rattly whine
from the speedometer in my 70 bug. Since getting access to the
speedometers backside is a PITA in my car (lots of siren relays, cables,
flashers, etc., ahead of it) Im trying to see what Im in for. The whine
increases in frequency and loudness with increasing speed, and drops to
silent when Im under, say, about 5 mph.
Is it probably a (a) cable problem, requiring replacement of the cable, (b)
cable housing problem (maybe a little lubricant squirted down the cable
jacket?), or (c) a problem inside the speedometer itself (a Euro km/h unit)?
Any advice before I begin digging?
