The replacement cables are cheap enough to save you aggravation with sprays and lubricants, etc. Get a new one, pull the cir clip off the grease hub, pull it out then thru the front trunk metal and be sure to put it in the new one correctly without making any sharp turns when you slip it in. Done deal. Trust me....Wish I only had speedo cable probems........both my cabrios 68 Bug and 62 Karmann Ghia were swimming in salt water, mufflers full and interior up to the battery in the bug.
