Hello Suzanne, not a stupid question at all. When you launch Ariadne, wait for a few seconds for it to obtain a gps fix. Near the bottom of the screen it will tell you if the map server is responding or something similar to that affect. Around the center of the screen, maybe a tad bit lower, is the current street information. If you tap that, it will tell you the name of the street, the zip code, and the county if available. If you swipe around, you will find the start monitoring button. Tap that and Voice Over will automatically announce when you change directions and also the street numbers where you are in. It will also announce when the street changes. It is a very nice app for sure.

I hope this helps.

Raul,

Sorry for what is probably a silly question, but how do I get Ariadne to
tell me what street I'm on? I can tap around the screen to see several
streets but am not sure how to reliably tell where I actually am if I
don't know already.

Hi Damon. I think a good app to do this is Ariadne GPS. The cost is
around $2.99 USD. It will tell you what street you are on and the
approximate address number and the direction you are traveling.

Good luck.

also for bus routes. Any help would be great.
