depends on the model of your phone. the iphone 4 had the weird antenna issue (a design flaw) and having a rubber boot around the phone resolved the issue. not sure about the 4S though. I have a 3GS here and have no trouble connecting into my wireless router or any other. I am not sure where the antenna is on the 3GS but it works very well for 3 year old technology.
