According to someone who I consider to be knowledgeable in such things, this 
sort of reboot immediately stops all processes. If the iPhone should happen to 
be accessing the core OS at the time, it could cause a corruption in the 
particular code being accessed. He said the odds are extremely low, but he will 
not use such methods with his iPhone. That is good enough for me. I have never 
had a problem getting my iPhone to reboot holding the home and power buttons 
for 12 seconds. This is the method Apple recommends if turning the phone off 
and on doesn't work.
