Personally, I like Navigon. It is more costly than others, but Ii think it does an excellent job. I also like that Navigon stores the maps on the iPhone, so there is no need for a data hook up.
There is an app very similar to Look Tels breadcrumbs called My Way Classic. $19.99 USD. There is also My Way lite a free version to try.
