Yes, unfortunately, the grandfathering only applies to your current phone. When you upgrade to a different phone, you lose the unlimited data and you'll have to chose a data plan. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I don't end up having to do what my aunt had to do on Verizon which was completely get a new plan when she got a new phone. She had the Droid II. She has one of the newer Droids now. The reason I say that is because I still have unlimited data, which is a good thing and would hate to lose it. I like Sprint because they have unlimited data, and if I were to have to get a new plan on Verizon, Sprint would have a new customer. This of course was a bit different with the older devices we are used to, nokias and alike, and even some of the newer droid devices to. One thing of note I've herd people mention though, are the differences between the data plans offered through sprint, verison and at&t. Not sure if any are really considered truly unlimited, but sprint and verison apparently have an upper hand on us at&t users. One other thing that may become an issue with the IPhone 5, if it really is 4g compatible, will be how the 4g works here on AT&t. I really honestly don't know much about 4g or what they use so maybe it'll work perfectly. Take care.
