I am about to join the iPhone ranks soon as well. I'm waiting to see
what's in the iPhone 2012 to decide whether to get it or the 4s. The
two biggest differences in services between providers are
coverage/call quality and price. I would not like to be an AT&T
customer in New York or a Sprint customer north of Seattle. coverage
at these spots is flaky and limited I understand. similarly, I have
noticed that some providers offer the service at one-third to half the
cost of the contract providers. the most well-known of these
providers is one called Straight Talk, a joint venture of Wal-Mart and
TracFone. Straight Talk uses the AT&T network and offers unlimited
voice, data, and texting for $45 a month. Straight Talk doesn't want
users to do tethering or video or audio streaming. However, people
report that Straight Talk only gets excited when people use more than
100 MB of data a day or 2 GB a month. with Straight Talk, you must
bring your own phone to the service, which is prepaid. One is not on
any contract and can leave at any time.

for me, Straight Talk has made owning and using and iPhone affordable
and possible for me.
