Hi Marie,

That is correct. When you first turn on the phone, a triple click of the home
button will start Voiceover. You will be at the screen where you get the
Hello/Welcome message in all sorts of languages and you just double tap to
start setting up your phone. I recently purchased an iPhone 6 for my wife and
one thing I found was that for some reason it took a long time for the triple
click home to actually start Voiceover. I turned on the phone, waited about 45
seconds which normally is more than enough and then tried it and nothing
happened. I waited longer and tried again with no success. I then asked one of
my employees to come to the office to take a look, it probably was 5 minutes
after I started the phone and then when I tried it for some reason worked.
Maybe this was just an oddity. I would recommend you maybe don’t even try to
turn on the phone with the power button, but rather just plug in the Lightning
cable which will also start up the phone and the advantage is that you usually
get a short vibration once it starts. I’d probably wait another minute, then
press the home button once to wake up the phone and then press it 3 times
quickly and it should work fine.

Also, keep in mind that by default typing mode is set to standard typing. One
of the first things you will be asked to do when you set up your phone is to
connect to your WiFi. I usually use touch typing and always turn the rotor to
Typing Mode right away when I am in the edit field for my WiFi password and
change it to touch typing, then I turn it back to characters and I’m good to go
from there on with touch typing.

Good luck and enjoy,

Sieghard

Subject: IPhone 6 and triple click Home

I know that with IOS 8 the triple click home can be assigned to several things
but I assume the default when you first turn on the phone is to activate
Voiceover. Is this assumption correct? Looking forward to purchasing the 6 soon
and since I live alone I don’t want to need assistance to set it up.

Thanks, Marie
