Thanks. I have listened to some of the mountain Lion podcasts on Applevis.
They are helpful, though sometimes beyond my current skill level. I don't
know how this happens, but every so often, my speech turns off, not
voiceover, but speech, and the only way to get it back is to have my husband
or son go into the voiceover settings and turn it back on, because it is
muted some how. Is there a key command that will bring it back?

Yep, it is a very different system. First pointer, forget everything you
know about windows and your former screen reader.

Next, get your head wrapped around the concept of interacting. Interacting
tightens your focus in to a specific manipulatable area. You can interact
multiple times to work your way down layers. For me, interacting was
extremely confusing to really figure out.

Also, Windows control is not Mac control. On Mac command structure, control,
option, and command each have specific ways of effecting things. Command,
which is in the same location as alt in Windows, is the key used for direct
manipulation. So, command c copies whilst command v pastes. That said, there
are other command key commands which directly translate from Windows alt,
such as command tab to switch between open windows on the Mac.

I haven't committed all of the Mac commands and VO commands to memory.
Instead, I use the touch-pad a lot.
