when it is wifi connection, we can see word imessage, but if we are out of
wifi reach, we can see text. after you send text messges out, you would
notice your history as yo go back and find "send as text" as you know that
someone is out of wifi onnection.
some ask if imessge is free, I would say yes, as if it is based on how your
provideris as for att, verizon, and others. his means having all kinds of
levels of payments.
sincerely,
rich

Thank you so much for clarifying, Sieghard! Are you 100% sure one can use
also one's cellular data in order to send iMessages? Cause I thought what
Marie has said to be the only way for exchanging such messages. If so, many
thanks again! See, I can only use my c.d. for iMessages, since WiFi has been
disabled on my "oldie" 4S....(sigh).
By the way, I must take the opportunity to thank moderator(s) for creating
this list, and for accepting my request to be a member.
Cheers,
Tatiana from Athens

Correct and to add to what Christopher said and to correct Marie, iMessages
are sent via WiFi if you are connected to WiFi, but if you are not they use
cellular data.

I think of text messages as SMS text messages, so they would count against
the text message limit of your cellular plan. I think of iMessages as
instant messaging, so they are part of your data plan and not your text
messaging plan. In that way, they are similar to email.

I Messages are text messages rather than email. And they are sent via

Hi, are iMessages considered paid text messages, or are they
considered data exchanges between iDevices? I hope that makes sense.
I'm just curious to know if iMessages would be billed by a carrier.
